The ideal person will have the following location / background / experience:
Personality: Must be extroverted with a strong ability to influence others and ultimately to drive sales of a business. Ideally someone who is a leader that loves interacting with people, providing guidance / influence, and helping people achieve goals. At the same time, the person needs a love of understanding things technically with a proven ability to explain it to another person well (so some ability to teach and guide in one-on-one applications). A strong organizational capability (lots of phone calls and emails to manage with hundreds of customers over a yearly period) is also critical.
Education: A Business or Technical degree (electrical or mechanical preferred) is preferred, or a strong evidence of successfully creating business opportunities in the industrial marketplace. We sell engineering-related products to engineers in industrial applications, and thus someone without a strong technical aptitude is usually at a severe disadvantage unless they have enough application and product experience from a lengthy time in the industry.
Experience: While we are open to a new graduate who could be trained, we prefer someone who has a passion for process applications within industries of power, oil/gas, water / waste, food / beverage, pharmaceutical, and manufacturing facilities, as well as the types of products that we sell (measurement, control, data acquisition, and networking products). Clear evidence and experience in personal success as well as growing/building a business (or related endeavor). Product lines include instrumentation, temperature solutions, hazardous area products, data acquisition solutions, control systems, vibration monitoring, and weigh scales.
Area of Coverage: All of Virginia state.
Location: Candidate will live somewhere between Richmond and Arlington area
Cultural Fit: We’re a fun and very hard-working sales team. Must have the ability to grow a territory significantly while maintaining great relationships with customers and the companies we represent, so a good balance between hunter and gatherer sales skills would be needed.
Travel / Office: Person would work out of their home office, with travel typically 3 days a week visiting existing customers and building relationships with new customers throughout the territory. Initially would need to spend significant time (at least a month) at our home office in Newtown, PA (northeast of Philadelphia) to come up to speed on everything that we do and get trained on the products. Typically visit the NSI office at least once every couple months after that point for additional sales meetings / trainings.
