The Foxboro® 84CS Vortex Flowmeter, part of the Schneider Electric instrumentation portfolio, is a robust, high-accuracy flow measurement device purpose-built for sanitary applications in industries where hygiene, cleanability, and performance are non-negotiable. This includes sectors such as food & beverage, dairy, brewing, biotechnology, and pharmaceuticals—environments governed by strict cleanliness standards and the need for reliable, repeatable measurements. At the heart of the 84CS is a vortex-shedding sensor, which uses the natural phenomenon of alternating vortices generated by fluid passing an obstruction (bluff body) to infer flow rate. This non-intrusive, no-moving-parts design enables the device to provide reliable and maintenance-free measurement over long operating periods—even in challenging conditions. Unlike many traditional flowmeters that require additional components for mass or temperature correction, the 84CS integrates advanced flow sensing, temperature measurement, and optional compensation features into a single compact device, enabling mass flow measurement of liquids, gases, and steam directly in a CIP/SIP-compliant hygienic installation.

The 84CS is engineered with a sanitary-grade, crevice-free construction using 316L stainless steel, ensuring compatibility with clean-in-place (CIP) and steam-in-place (SIP) protocols. It offers a range of hygienic process connections—including Tri-Clamp®, DIN 11851, ISS (ISO dairy coupling), RJT, and ANSI flanges—to meet global standards for food and pharma-grade equipment. The design eliminates areas where bacteria or contaminants could accumulate, ensuring compliance with 3-A Sanitary Standards, which are essential for equipment used in consumable product manufacturing. The sensor is also fully drainable and can be installed in either horizontal or vertical orientation, depending on the flow and cleaning strategy.
